Nothing. Porting is free on every CocoaVoIP plan, for any quantity of numbers — local, toll-free, or fax lines. Your old carrier may bill its own early-termination fee, but we never add a porting charge.

How long does a number port take?

Most local US numbers complete in 1–3 business days after we file. Toll-free numbers usually take about a week. You get a confirmed date before anything changes, and your phones work normally the whole time.

Will my phones stop working during the transfer?

No. Until the instant the port completes, your current carrier keeps delivering calls as usual. The handoff itself takes seconds, and we place a test call to confirm before we call it done.

Do I cancel my old phone service first?

Please don't. Cancelling before the port completes can release your number back to the carrier — and you may never get it back. Keep the old account open until CocoaVoIP confirms your number is live, then cancel.

Can my old carrier refuse to release my number?

No. FCC rules say your number belongs to you, and carriers must release it on request even if you're mid-contract. They can bill their own termination fees, but they cannot hold the number itself hostage.

What do you need from me to start the port?

Three things: a copy of a recent bill from your current carrier, an e-signature on the one-page Letter of Authorization we send you, and the account name and service address exactly as your carrier has them on file.

Can I port several numbers at the same time?

Yes — main lines, direct lines, fax numbers, and toll-free numbers can all move together on one order, usually landing on the same cutover date. Just list every number on the LOA.

What happens if the port gets rejected?

Rejections are almost always a paperwork mismatch — the name or address on the LOA differs from the carrier's records. We verify details before filing, and if a rejection slips through we correct and refile at no charge. Your service is never interrupted by a rejection.

We email you a Letter of Authorization — e-sign it in about a minute. Add a photo or PDF of a recent bill from your current carrier, and your part is done.

We file with your old carrier

Same business day, we submit the port request to the losing carrier and stay on it until it's approved. Federal rules say they must let the number go.

You get a firm date

The carrier confirms a transfer date — typically 1–3 business days out for local numbers, around a week for toll-free. We tell you the moment it's booked.

The number flips over
